Mosaic Employees Recognized as Heroes of the Phosphate Mining Industry

Every year, the Florida Section for Society Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and Association of Fertilizer and Phosphate Chemists (AFPC) recognize outstanding Florida phosphate industry contributors with “Heroes of the Industry” awards. These awards are presented annually at the SME Regional Mining Conference.

At this year’s conference in October, two Mosaic employees were recognized with that award: Kenny Miller and Kevin Sapp

Kenny Miller is General Manager for Mosaic’s Four Corners and Wingate facilities and was recognized by SME for his contributions to the success of the industry and for helping others along their way to success in mining.

Florida-born and a second generation phosphator, Kenny entered the industry in 1982 as an analytical lab technician at the former CF Mine Hardee Phosphate Complex. Over the years, Kenny has been a chemist, environmental engineer and production manager for the company.

Today, Kenny is helping integrate our Florida mining operations – establishing Mosaic’s first Integrated Operations Center and fostering a “one-mine, one-way” approach that will help us reduce risks and maximize our production and resources.

Kevin Sapp

Kevin Sapp serves as the Senior Supervisor of the Bartow Quality Control Laboratory and was recognized by AFPC for his commitment to the phosphate industry and for leading innovative analytics solutions for phosphate products.

Kevin holds a Masters Degree in Analytical Chemistry and started his career as a high school and college professor before joining Mosaic in 2013.

Over the course of his career at Mosaic, Kevin has served as a Laboratory Technician Shift Supervisor and held several chemist positions before becoming Senior Supervisor of the Bartow laboratory.

Additionally, he serves as AFPC President and has worked tirelessly to keep the association afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic. The society calls him “instrumental” to their innovations and he has provided input for fertilizer regulatory programs, environmental protection, and industry competition.

“Congratulations to Kenny and Kevin for their well-earned recognition and decades of commitment to advancing the phosphate industry here in Florida,” said Bruce Bodine, Senior Vice President – North America. “We are proud to work alongside Kenny and Kevin and can’t wait to see where their pursuit for innovation takes them next.”
